Why repurpose fabrics?
The textile/fashion industry is the second most polluting industry after the fossil fuel industry. The numbers are hard to get your head around, it's hard to even imagine that up to 100 BILLION garments are produced each year globally and 92 million tonnes of textiles being discarded each year. That's a garbage truck going to the landfill or being incinerated every second. All for our clothing habits in the west. And who takes the hit? The global south, where most of the clothes we throw away are produced. It's simply not fair.
By repurposing old clothes and fabrics headed to the landfill, they get new life. Most of the fabrics sourced for rt.magasins clothing are as good as new, and some fabrics show some wear. For example, the Oat and Curve pants are made from 2-3 pairs of thrifted jeans. By mixing shades and different degrees of wear on the chosen 2-3 pairs, a whole new garment with a unique look is made. Because of this process, every single pair of Oats or Curves are completely unique.
